Episode 272 – Wrapped In The Flag

The Tim Corrimal Show
Episode 272 – November 3, 2013

Show Art - Wrapped In The Flag by Claire Conner

On episode 272 of The Tim Corrimal Show, I am joined at the round table by Joe (@Marnus3 on Twitter) from “The Left Hook” Blog, John Sheirer (@RealAmericanLib on Twitter) who’s the author of the book “Tales of a Real American Liberal” available at http://www.johnsheirer.com/ and Claire Conner (@wrappedinflag on Twitter) who’s the author of the book “Wrapped In The Flag” available at http://claireconner.com/wrapped-in-the-flag/.

On the show this week we start out with introductions and then we get directly into a discussion about Claire Conner‘s book “Wrapped In The Flag: A Personal History of America’s Radical Right“.  We discuss how Claire was just twelve years old when her parents founded the Chicago chapter of the John Birch Society in 1959 and dedicated their lives to right-wing extremism and she explains how the people behind the John Birch Society have moved the politics of the United States further and further to the right over the last 50 years that led to the prominence of today’s Religious Right and the Tea Party.  Then after another hilarious commercial from our great friends over at BubbleGenius.com and the “All A Tweetie” segment, Joe gives us a clown car update which leads right back into the discussion about Claire’s book and how she eventually escaped, while still loving her Parents and family members stating “Extremism broke my family, I don’t want it to break my country”.

Claire Conner‘s book “Wrapped In The Flag: A Personal History of America’s Radical Right” is available at Beacon Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Indie Bound.  You can check out all of the links to purchase the book in hard copy or e-book format at Claire’s website – http://claireconner.com/wrapped-in-the-flag/.  You can also check out her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WrappedInTheFlagByClaireConner.
