The Tim Corrimal Show
Episode 154 – February 6, 2011

On episode 154 of The Tim Corrimal Show, I am joined by Dave (@D_v_E on Twitter) from The Corner Tavern Blog and the Refudiate This, Sarah blog, Seth (@Sethp23 on Twitter), Andrew (@awienick on Twitter) and Sarah (@s_a_cosgrove on Twitter).
On today’s show, we are joined by Sarah, who is an expert on the Middle East to discuss the protests in Egypt. We talk about the history behind the uprising and how the US diplomacy of the past 40 years has played into this sitaution in Egypt. And then we talk about the right wing’s crazy “Caliphate” theory that Glenn Beck and others are spinning on Fox News. (Beware of the “F” bombs when we get to that discussion on the show). Sarah explains it all in a historical construct and we can’t thank her enough for her time this week joining us on the round table.

VERY informative show—well done, everyone! I’ve found the discussions of Egypt on most of the mainstream media to be pretty shallow and not very informative, and when the alternative media was better, it was also, well, very dry. This was so much better and useful.
Sarah’s explanation of the caliphate was especially useful!
One thing, though: I think the word “terrorism” wasn’t the appropriate one to use when talking about the GOP. As reprehensible and disgusting as their campaigning and astroturfing have been and are, that awful behaviour is in no way comparable to actual terrorism. I’ve been known to get a little carried away rhetorically, so I definitely appreciate the passion, even if I think the word choice was unfortunate.
This was one of the best shows yet—thanks everyone, and well done!
