“hungrier than lice in a wig”
Because Lice feed on the blood of the scalp, and a wig is (presumably) only on the scalp for a short time.
Hence, the lice only get to eat for a little bit and then they are cast off with the wig to get all hungry (and probably scurrilous)
It’s one of those sayings that really puts the ‘b’ in subtle… and requires some thought.
