Change is happening in Baby Steps
Tim Corrimal
I am very happy that Barrack Obama has won by a mandate in the Presidential Election. But then again, I am very sad that all of the propositions limiting gay rights have passed. That just tells us that America as well as Democrats need more education! And it’s up to us to make that happen.
I have to say this situation has made me embarrassed to chant “YES WE CAN” as I was typing constantly on Twitter during Election Day. I truly believed that America would come together and not deny our rights with this huge Democratic party turn out since we worked so hard to help Obama win and young people were voting in droves.
But, guess what. That did not happen. We continue to be classified as second class citizens without the full rights of the rest of America.
And on Twitter for 2 days now I have seen so much whining by people complaining about loosing Prop 8. After much thought and reflection, here was my response on Twitter.
<Twitter Messages from me included below>
Ok, enough about Prop 8 negative stuff. We will try again and next time we will win! I’m just happy that we have taken our country back!
And it’s up to us to make that change happen! Today is a new day of change and opportunity! Let’s each take on the duty of change!
It’s time for each one of us to be glad of the progress we have made. Change comes in baby steps and have that.
And we will not win if we sit on our ass. Change will happen down the road if we work for it. It’s time to call it a a win for Change!
And I will say now that I so wanted to continue the “Yes We Can” slogan, but when I heard that Prop 8 lost…I was ashamed to say that!
But after much thought, I have to say that it’s time for us to come together as John McCain said and let’s continue the drive to try again in the next election!
<end of tweets>
And adding this after the fact, I think that if we keep on getting the signatures to turn this over every 2 years, eventually people will get tired of it in the elections and just let it happen and then we win!
Let’s not be discouraged. Let’s consider this situation an opportunity for us to get even more people involved to make Change possible. It will take hard work. But, YES WE CAN!
